Accelerating AI Development with Cyber Arenas
Cashman, William, Milner, Chasen, Houle, Michael, Jones, Michael, Jananthan, Hayden, Kepner, Jeremy, Michaleas, Peter, Pentland, Alex
Abstract--AI development requires high fidelity testing environments to effectively transition from the laboratory to operations. The flexibility offered by cyber arenas presents a novel opportunity to test new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with users. Cyber arenas are designed to expose end-users to real-world situations and must rapidly incorporate evolving capabilities to meet their core objectives. T o explore this concept the MIT/IEEE/Amazon Graph Challenge Anonymized Network Sensor was deployed in a cyber arena during a National Guard exercise. The increased complexity of the interactions between cyberspace and cyber-operators drive the complexity of the platforms emulating this relationship.

How to Decide on a Dataset for Detecting Cyber-Attacks
You create an amazing machine learning algorithm. You take a novel approach and apply techniques that prove to be highly accurate. Your results demonstrate a very high true positive rate and a very low false positive rate. You write a paper that articulates your outstanding results and submit it to a leading academic conference. You expect that this research will be well received, and you will receive many citations of your work.

A next-generation platform for Cyber Range-as-a-Service
In the last years, Cyber Ranges have become a widespread solution to train professionals for responding to cyber threats and attacks. Cloud computing plays a key role in this context since it enables the creation of virtual infrastructures on which Cyber Ranges are based. However, the setup and management of Cyber Ranges are expensive and time-consuming activities. In this paper, we highlight the novel features for the next-generation Cyber Range platforms. In particular, these features include the creation of a virtual clone for an actual corporate infrastructure, relieving the security managers from the setup of the training scenarios and sessions, the automatic monitoring of the participants' activities, and the emulation of their behavior.

Serious Games for Serious Topics: Training Cybersecurity Professionals Using AI-Powered Games IT Training
Massive breaches in corporate and government security in the last few years mean that most organizations are now aware of the importance of cybersecurity training. However, there are some challenges in training cybersecurity professionals. Mike Moniz, president, founder and CEO of Circadence Corp., identifies two additional challenges. First, there's a shortage of qualified cybersecurity instructors. Second, it's difficult to truly reproduce real-life cybersecurity threats with the same sophistication and passion that hackers or nation states have when they commit a cybercrime.
